Not every morning in Newfoundland and Labrador is painted gold, but on the right day, the Bonavista cliffs look as if dipped in sunlight, with salt mist crawling among the rocks. Somewhere beneath those shimmering waves, Meredith, a clever old soul, moves with the tides, weaving quiet surprises into the rhythm of the coast.

Meredith’s journey first caught folks’ eyes in the busy heart of Trinity Bay, all the way back in August of 2016. Then—just when searchers might’ve wondered where she’d vanished to—she reemerged, eight years later, right off Bonavista Harbour, just as capelin clouds shimmered near the shore.

That same summer, Meredith lingered around Cape Bonavista, making herself at home amid the watchful gaze of seabirds and puffins—her presence a special gift to July’s eager whale spotters. The following year, she seemed even fonder of the place. Day after day in July 2025, watchers glimpsed her near Bonavista, tracing the coastline: July 7th, 8th, and 9th, as steady as the tides. She even popped by Trinity Bay’s Catalina only days later, as if looping happily through favourite haunts.

In 2026, Meredith was coaxed again by the Bonavista Lighthouse, gliding through kelp-swirled shallows while the wind sang through the lighthouse’s weathered iron. She’s a wanderer, sure—but somehow always circles back to these storied bays, adding her echo to the sea’s old tales.
